Officer Nick Huckabee
Melbourne Village Police Department
Dear Sir,
You have been selected as Officer of the year for 2008.
During this one year period you have exemplified a true public servant that deeply cares for the community he serves. You have reported for duty on nights that you were not feeling well, placing you personal needs behind the needs of the organization. In addition, you have worked dilligently on each tour of duty making many arrests and keeping up traffic enforcement. You have kept up the departmental website and attended the county investigation meetings, even after working all night. You have disseminated crime patterns to your fellow colleagues by maintaining an intelligence clipboard in the squadroom. You have worked on your cases during investigations, making contributions that have resulted in the solving and apprehension of criminals. You maintain an attitude and work ethic that brings great pride to this department. You constantly strive to make yourself better by gathering up the vast information needed to be a professional police officer.
During this year you have made many notable arrests. On April 11, 2008 at 1:36AM while patrolling your post, you spotted three men who upon seeing you bolted into the rear yard of a village resident. You managed to detain one of them and by your actions, it was subsequently learned that the three were burglarizing cars, where a gun, among other property, was taken. Later in the month you received a report of a car burglary and carefully noted the description of the suspect from a witness. While searching in West Melbourne you located a man fitting the description and brought him back to the witness and conducted a show-up identification where he was apprehended as the culprit.
Your actions, attitude, courage and perseverance have directly lead to your selection as Officer of the Year. You are a true credit to all of law enforcement, your family, yourself and most of all to this department. I congratulate you on a fine year in police work and wish you continued success in this noble endeavor.
Sincerely,
Jack King
