What is
Project Lifesaver?
Project Lifesaver is a program designed to assist in the
tracking and locating of Alzheimer's and other related Mental
Dysfunction Disorders patients who become lost. These victims
include the elderly and even the youngest in our community
who are afflicted with Down's Syndrome and Autism. Utilizing
state of the art equipment, purchased through the generosity
of organizations such as Brevard County TRIAD, Inc., Space
Coast Pilot Club, and the Titusville Woman's Club, we are
able to furnish four of these tracking devices for complete
coverage across Brevard County.
How Project Lifesaver Works:
The Project Lifesaver System works by utilizing a personalized
radio transmitter worn by identified persons to aid in locating
them when they wander from their home. The device is capable
of tracking a signal up to a mile by ground and five to
nine miles by air. These devices work by giving an audible
signal that leads law enforcement to the victims. The Brevard
County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit will supervise the
program and provide tracking through a group of specially
trained officers.
The cost of the Project Lifesaver Bracelet is $290.00 each,
which includes the bracelet, battery tester, battery and
case. Replacement batteries will need to be purchased at
a cost of $100.00 annually. Applications can be obtained
by calling the Senior Help-Line at (321) 631-2747. A small
number of bracelets are available to indigent clients who
qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines; these income
guidelines also apply to the caregiver. To obtain an application,
please call: (321) 631-2747.
